Rachel Tiller to present REGIMES results at the International Studies Association

Senior Research Scientist Rachel Tiller will present a joint paper at the 59th Convention of the International Studies Association in San Francisco April 4th-7th 2018. The paper she will present is on changing ecosystem goods and services in the Arctic, with a focus on Mackerel and Snow Crab, and how this is an exogenous shock to the management of the Svalbard Fisheries Protection Zone.

To assess this, the paper compares the Svalbard regime with that of three other management regimes that went through institutional changes because of environmental causes, namely the 1979 Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (changed with the death of the Black Forest in Germany), the 1985 Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (changed by the hole in the ozone layer), and the 1946 Convention for the Permanent Commission (later named the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission) (changed by the Exclusive Economic Zones).
